9.30 am – 5.00 pm

A delightful day in the Derwent Valley celebrating the beauty, history, innovation and the best of local fruits such as raspberries, cherries. It’s fun to pick them yourself and discover that is not as easy as it seems.  Plus learn about Tasmania’s opium poppy industry, crop seeds for European companies, and a great story of a remarkably efficient mini-hydro. Great access to beautiful private properties.

Amidst heritage raspberries savour summer fruits you have picked with your morning tea …and watch for the pesky platypus! Onwards now to a beautiful farm featuring a mini-hydro the size of a car, which powers 30 houses. Inspirational power generation for the future.

Experience a highly memorable picnic lunch alongside wattle and daub colonial age shed. A low-impact sustainable building technique that we have returned to in recent times.

Now time to learn how to pick your own cherries with owner – it’s not as easy as it seems: 3 fleshy delicious varieties. Then roam amongst a commercial opium poppy field, rarely accessible to the public.

Passing by extensive protected commercial seed fields plantation, wind-down with afternoon tea in beautiful private lakeside setting

Time out to feed whopper fish in beautiful 150-year-old fish hatchery – the origins of all trout fishing in Australia.
